Bergerac is situated close to Bordeaux and good growers can produce Bordeaux style wines at much more sensible prices. Pėcharmant red wines come from the outskirts of Bergerac and the best are considered to be of excellent quality and have good ageing potential. Domaine des Costes with Jean Philipe Dournel at the helm, is gaining a tremendous reputation for first class modern winemaking that combines rich cassis fruit with vanilla oak. Jean Philipe Dournel is also a very  highly respected  consultant oenologist in the area and deserves a lot of credit for the improvement in the overall standard of the wines from this region.
